In this episode of The Hope + Help Project, Christine Chappell interviews author Trillia Newbell to discuss her new book, Sacred Endurance: Finding Grace and Strength for a Lasting Faith. During the interview, Trillia shares her story of coming to Christ as an adult. She also takes on the "fake it 'till you make it" mentality, warns against the toxic effects of the prosperity gospel, and explains how the Scriptures invite us to engage God in the midst of our suffering. Encouraging listeners with gospel-centered reminders, Trillia also helps us to understand how to keep our hearts from growing cynical in the midst of tumultuous political/cultural climates.
Enduring pain doesn't require that you ignore it or that you simply accept your fate. Paul asked the Lord to take his away. I used to think I had to be strong during trials. After my first of what would be four miscarriages, I mourned, but I thought I could just take a few deep breaths and move along. I wanted to be strong. For what reason, I still don't quite know. Perhaps my desire for strength was a sort of self-protection: If I'm not vulnerable and weak, then I'll be okay.– Trillia Newbell

Why We Can Trust Him
God doesn’t do anything in his sovereign will that isn’t both wise and loving. If God is for you, who can be against you? We don’t trust God simply because someone tells us to. We trust God because he is God.
The Samaritan Woman and Our Barrier-Smashing Savior
God’s Word tells us that to endure in this life we must fix our eyes on Jesus. But what does it mean to fix your eyes on someone you can’t see?
The Gospels tell stories about Jesus that show us his character. We learn how he interacted with people and the world around him. By studying these stories, we learn to set our eyes and hearts on him.
Stories of Sacred Endurance Podcast
In conjunction with her book, Sacred Endurance, Trillia has developed this podcast to take the biblical call to run the race with endurance and bring it to life with stories of modern day Christians.
The race is hard, but you are not running it alone.
