About the Episode

In this episode of the Hope + Help Podcast, host Christine Chappell interviews Heather Nelson about her book, Rest: Creating Space for Soul Refreshment. Some of the questions addressed in this interview are:

• Why do people struggle to experience rest, both in its physical and spiritual forms?
• What is the difference between physical and spiritual rest?
• What makes rest a “mark of freedom” for God’s people?
• What is Sabbath rest, and what might it look like, practically speaking?
• How can we experience rest when tasks remain in a state of incompletion?
• In what ways can unbelief hinder our experience of Christ’s rest?
• What does rest have to do with God’s grace?
• In what ways might joylessness in the Christian life be linked to a lack of rest?

About the Guest

Heather Nelson (MA, Westminster Theological Seminary) is a biblical counselor at Mountain View Christian Counseling in Greenville, South Carolina, and the author of Unashamed: Healing Our Brokenness and Finding Freedom from Shame.

About the Book

God wants us to rest. In fact, he designed us to need to rest, and he commanded us to rest as an expression of our freedom as his people. So why do we have such a hard time pausing to find refreshment and renewed strength? Biblical counselor Heather Nelson diagnoses the patterns of thinking that lead us to reject rest and helps us, over thirty-one days, to develop a plan for rest that is biblical and tailored to our own specific context and needs.
