In this episode of The Hope + Help Project, Christine Chappell interviews author Christina Fox on the topic of weariness in motherhood and her new book with P&R Publishing, Sufficient Hope: Gospel Meditations and Prayers for Moms. Christina shares about her reluctant struggle with postpartum depression, the importance of having proper expectations in motherhood and how to turn from helplessness to hope in Christ. She also addresses common heart issues that moms of all ages wrestle with, such as control idolatry, discontentment, and general discouragement with the motherhood experience.
We think we can do life on our own apart from God. What we need is an accurate understanding of how desperate our fallen nature is and how dependent we are on God's grace for all things.– Christina Fox

About the Book
Sufficient Hope: Gospel Meditations and Prayers for Moms • Motherhood is a wonderful season of life—but also one filled with challenges, trials, discouragements, and stress. Moms labor to tend to the needs of their children and often find themselves empty and spent by the end of the day.
But in the gospel we have a wonderful resource to sustain us. God is more than sufficient to uphold us, and his message of good news applies to all the daily challenges of motherhood.
Christina Fox examines a range of situations through the lens of the gospel and shows us, in each one, who Christ is, where he is, and what he has done for us. Learn how the gospel meets you, in whatever you are going through, with life-giving, soul-saturating hope. Prayers at the end of each brief chapter apply this hope to specific, different challenges of motherhood.

Moms, We Need the Gospel on Repeat
It can be easy to think of the gospel as an important truth for our salvation—that moment where we trusted in Christ as our Savior—and not realize its significance for the whole of our life. We know we need salvation from our sins. We know we need reconciliation with God. We know we need Christ’s sacrifice on the cross to free us from slavery to sin. But what about in the day to day? What does the good news of Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection mean to the daily life of a mom?
For the Mom Who's Weary
As moms, we are prone to take on every burden ourselves and think that everything depends on us. We have high expectations for ourselves and try to stay on top of everything, whether it’s having a spotless house and well-dressed children or keeping up with our volunteer duties at school or on the ball field. In addition to our motherhood duties, we have other responsibilities to manage, whether in the home or at the office. All too often, we live as though we are supermoms, impervious to the boundaries and limits of human frailty.
