When Hurting is Hard and Healing is Harder

Manna for Melancholy Devotional

Read More Devotionals
We're training to hope, training to trust, and training to choose to believe God at his word.
We don't want to hear that relief will take a while. We don't want to accept that healing—both physical and spiritual—takes time. What we want is a formula. We want the quick step-by-step plan for wellness instead of the uncomfortable plod with Christ through the pain of our brokenness.

Hurting is hard and somehow healing is harder, isn't it?

But we cannot hurry healing—we have no such power within ourselves. Trusting healing to God means we submit the pace to his perfect timing, believing that fixing our eyes upon him is a greater priority than fixing our hurts.

This is what training looks like. We're training to hope, training to trust, and training to choose to believe God at his word. The wails of temporal pains will soon be hushed by the whispers of eternal promises. Hope is a skill to be learned while we sit between hurting and healing. Time will tell the testimony. Our resurrected King is resurrecting us and there's nothing more to do besides believe that he will do all he has promised to those who belong to him by faith.
Remember Your word to Your servant, upon which You have given me hope. This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.
Psalm 119:49-50
