FamilyLife Today with Mark Vroegop and Dave & Ann Wilson

YouTube
"Sometimes sadness is an appropriate response to the situation that we’re in. As Christians, the temptation can be, 'Well, this is a very negative feeling, and I shouldn’t have it because I have hope in the Lord.' So then we try to force ourselves to live in the space of hope—being inept at navigating the space of sorrow. The Bible doesn’t say do one or the other. It says, 'Here’s how you can grieve with hope in Christ.'”
"Struggling with prayer that feels powerless against depression or relentless anxiety? In this deeply honest conversation, pastor and author Mark Vroegop (Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy) and biblical counselor Christine Chappell (Midnight Mercies) join Dave & Ann Wilson to share practical hope. They explore why God sometimes seems silent after we pray, how biblical lament invites us to turn, complain, ask, and trust—and why we need community and counseling when hope runs thin. Christine shares how God asked her not to work harder at not being depressed but to walk with Him in the moment, asking “Show me how to live when I feel like I don’t want to live at all” and receiving a fresh sense of hope. Mark explains that waiting on God is learning to live on what you know is true about Him when you don’t know what’s true about your life. Discover the difference between 'safe sadness' and a downward spiral, and simple ways to walk with kids wrestling suicidal thoughts."
